‎International bodies are sounding the alarm as South Sudan's fragile peace process teeters on the edge of collapse. The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC) have warned of deepening divisions, rising insecurity, and stalled implementation of the 2018 peace deal. ‎ ‎A Dangerous Breakdown in Peace ‎The 2018 Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) brought hope to a nation shattered by civil war. But that hope is now dimming. ‎In a briefing to the UN Security Council, Guang Cong, the Deputy Head of UNMISS, revealed that over 130,000 people have been displaced in recent months due to a surge in armed violence particularly in Upper Nile and Greater Pibor.  ‎The increase in military activity and the escalation of localized conflicts have disrupted humanitarian access and eroded confidence between the signatories of the peace agreement. ‎“These are not just isolated ...

Yei River State: European Union Worried About The Clashes.

The clashes in Yei River State has not gone unrecognized by the International Community. The European Union (EU) has decided to make their opinion heard on the current conflict in Yei River State between the three warring parties.
That is National Salvation Front (NAS) led by Thomas Cirilo who is leading the Equatoria community to fight for change in the country. The Second group is the South Sudan Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLMA-IO) group led by Dr. Riek Machar and finally the group in government that is the South Sudan People Defence Force (SSPDF) representing the government.
National Salvation Front (NAS) recently rejected the call by South Sudan President H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit to end it’s rebellion. This means they are calling for war and not ready to peace unless their terms are met.
In the statement from one of the National Salvation Front (NAS) officials he said that “We felt that this peace is not real peace, we believe this peace is a duplication of the previous problems, and we don’t want to be part of it. We told the elders that our main objective is to completely transform the South Sudan political system into a democratic system.” In a statement that was released in the National Salvation Front (NAS) is that they are ready for peace to come to South Sudan through War.
The National Salvation Front (NAS) is reiterating for the government and other country of interest to try to address the root cause of the conflict rather than rush to sign the peace and later see war erupting again in the country.
The European Union (EU) said that “: “The EU Delegation follows with deep concern the ongoing violence in Yei River and Amadi States and condemns violations of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement, and the Revitalized Agreement.”
This means none of the warring parties are willing to follow the agreement signed or the cessation of the hostilities which was signed by the three warring parties. The fighting which erupted in Yei River County on 19th January 2019 seems to be escalating out of hand.
On the second hand Euro is one of the Major donor of all the major activities in South Sudan, they are even the one funding the revitalize peace agreement in the country and some of the major international and national NGOs in the country.
This means the innocent civilians currently residing in Yei River State will feel the effect of the war. There will be no farming no school and no health services. The people of the Yei River State is in dire need of help.
The European union consist of the 28 member countries including Belgium France Germany Italy Luxembourg Netherlands Denmark Ireland United Kingdom Greece Portugal Spain Austria Finland Sweden Cyprus Czechia Estonia Hungary and many other countries.
The official currency of the European Union members is the Euro and 19 out of the 28 countries collective use the Euro. The countries using the Euro or the members of the Euro are known as the Eurozone.
