Police Officer Shot Dead, Gun Stolen While Guarding KCSE Exam Papers in Turkana ‎

Turkana County Police Commander, Samuel Ndanyi. ‎A police officer was shot dead in cold blood on Monday morning while guarding Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination papers in Turkana County.  ‎ The tragic incident occurred at Kang’atotha area, Turkana Central, where officers had been deployed to provide security during the ongoing national examinations. ‎ ‎According to police reports, the slain officer was part of a team assigned to escort and guard examination materials at a local school. Witnesses said the attack happened shortly after dawn when unknown assailants ambushed the officer. President Kiir has urged the UN to support South Sudan in its endeavours to develop a robust agricultural system to improve food production.


Kiir spoke in a meeting with the visiting Director-General of FAO Qu Dongyu, the President of International Fund for Agriculture Development Dr. Alvaro Lario, and the Executive Director of WFP Cindy McCain in Juba on Tuesday.


Agriculture Minister Josephine Joseph Lagu said the UN team is in the country to assess food security situation and the situation of the people fleeing the Sudanese conflict.


Dr. Alvaro Lario of IFAD said they are in South Sudan to strengthen collaborative efforts towards improving food production, through new technologies and new investments.


The Acting Foreign Minister said the government is providing a conducive environment for the UN and other humanitarian agencies to move freely to all parts of the country.


Leaders from FAO, IFAD and WFP say immediate action and investment in resilience is needed to avert food crisis.
