Nasir Trial Adjourned as MP Gatwech Lam Puoch Begins Defense ‎

‎The Special Court handling the Nasir incident has adjourned proceedings until Monday, June 15, after the third accused, MP Gatwech Lam Puoch, began presenting his defense. ‎ ‎Gatwech, a member of the National Legislative Assembly representing Nasir County, rejected allegations linking him to activities related to the Nasir incident.  ‎ He told the court that his actions were part of his constitutional duties as an elected representative and were aimed at reducing tensions in Nasir and Ulang counties. ‎ ‎The lawmaker said a press conference cited by prosecutors was intended to encourage dialogue, address rumors, and help prevent conflict rather than incite violence.  ‎ He maintained that he was fulfilling his responsibility to represent and speak on behalf of his constituents. ‎ ‎Gatwech also argued that the Nasir crisis should be viewed within the wider context of challenges facing the implementation of the 2018 peace agreement, citing concerns raised by various political act...

WES Governor Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba summoned by the Transitional National Legislative Assembly 'TNLA' for questioning

Upper house of the  Transitional National Legislative Assembly council, summoned Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba the governor of Western Equatoria State to answer questions regarding insecurity in his state. 


The letter summoning the governor was signed by Speaker Deng Deng Akoon, states that “encroachment into South Sudan territories by the government of the Republic of Uganda, Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo.” part of the letter. 


The letter also states that the governor is supposed to avail himself to answer some vital questions by the lawmakers on Wednesday. 


“Your esteemed office is hereby summoned to make an appearance before the August House to follow the proceedings referred herein and to take questions from Hon. MPs regarding the subject matter.” the letter reads in part.


WES Press Secretary, Alex Daniel Digi, said that they have received the letter and the governor is already in Juba and will appear before the lawmakers on Wednesday. 


“I can confirm that the governor of Western Equatoria State is currently in Juba to respond to the summon of the Council of States,” Alex said. 


“The governor will appear in parliament tomorrow Wednesday at 10 am.”Alex added.
