Unity State legislative assembly summoned the State's Minister of Finance and Planning to answer some crucial questions regarding the 3% proceeds from the sale of crude oil allocated to the state. 


The move was triggered by SPLM-IO legislator Hon. David Jany Yak, legislator jany Jak raised a motion saying that the state has not received proceeds from the sale of crude oil since 2013. 


After a lengthy deliberation of the matter, the legislators all agreed to summon the state's finance minister hon. Malual Tap for questioning. 


Chairperson of the Information Committee In Unity State State legislative assembly, Hon. Stephen Mawich, while speaking to the media said that, the situation is dire in unity State so the parliamentarians had to seek further information about the proceeds. 


“What is happening in the oil-producing state and the lack of development made us ask about the 3 percent oil share. We do not know where the 3 percent is going,” he explained.  “It is a serious matter that needs to be addressed quickly. We need to know the budget in the state before we pass the new 2023/2024 budget. Stephen said. 


Unity State Finance Minister Hon. David Jany Yak said that, it was important for the parliamentarian to know where the money has been going. 


“We need to know where the money has been allocated to currently because our people have not been getting the 3 percent oil share allocated to the community for development, education, health, and safe water among other things,” Jany said. 


According to the state's finance minister, there is no development in the state due to poor management of the 3% oil share in the state.
