President Kiir Considers Egypt’s Bid for AU Deputy Chairperson Position

Dr. Morsy's focus on diversity, inclusivity, and global outreach aligns with the AU's vision for transformative leadership, making her candidacy significant as member states prepare for the upcoming elections in February.  The exchange of goodwill messages between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and President Kiir further cements the growing cooperation between the two nations.

Zimbabwe Army Coup

The Zimbabwe national army has successfully staged a coup which has led to President Robert Mugabe and wife to be placed under custody and the army can be seen patrolling the capital’s streets following a night of unrest that included a military takeover of the state broadcaster, Even Military tanks can be seen patrolling the road leading to President Mugabe’s Office in the capital Harare.

The Army spokesperson said early on Wednesday that the military is targeting criminals who are shielding themselves around President Mugabe and he further reassured the citizens that order will be restored immediately.

This is the statement from the military spokesperson ““We wish to make it abundantly clear that this is not a military takeover,” the army statement said. “We are only targeting criminals around (Mugabe) who are committing crimes that are causing social and economic suffering in the country in order to bring them to justice.”

South Sudan to Resume Oil Production and Exports on Wednesday South Sudan is set to restart oil production and exports on January 8, 2025, following the lifting of a force majeure declared in February 2024 due to infrastructure damage caused by conflict in Sudan.  Initial production will focus on Blocks 3 and 7, operated by Dar Petroleum Operating Company, targeting 90,000 barrels per day (bpd) within six months. Oil will be transported via Sudan's infrastructure to Port Sudan for export.  This decision was facilitated through collaboration between South Sudan's Ministry of Petroleum, Sudan's Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, and international partners.  The move is expected to boost South Sudan's economy, as oil exports are a critical revenue source to the country.
