President Kiir, Museveni Strengthen Bilateral Ties, Pledge Regional Stability

President Kiir, President Museveni and VP. Gok State Assembly Removed Its Speaker

Gok State Speaker has been relived from his duties by God State Assembly. 

The speaker known as Veronica Umjuma Philip  was dismissed after the state members of parliament passed a decision to sack him  on 30-June-2019.

Sixteen Members of Gok State Assembly raised the motion for the removal of the speaker immediately. 

The motion was raised when the speaker posted sensitive information regarding Gok State to the Social Media and this triggered the move to sack her.

Gok State Assembly earlier this year also impeached the State Minister Of Local Government and two Commissioners and one Member of Parliament. 

Gok State is one of 32 States in South Sudan and was formerly part of the Lakes State and it boarders Tonj State and Lakes State. In 2014 Gok State Had a population of 174,460.

Tensions Rise as SPLA-IO Officers Defect to Government Forces

The National Security Service (NSS) announced the move, stating that reintegrating the defectors into the government army is essential for stability and peace. ‎ ‎David John Kumuri, NSS spokesman, emphasized the importance of this process, saying, ‎"This reintegration is key to reducing violence and ensuring security across the country." ‎ ‎This marks the third mass defection of SPLA-IO members in recent weeks, following clashes in Nasir, Upper Nile State, last month. Raila Odinga and President Kiir.  ‎Kenya’s former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s attempt to meet with South Sudan’s First Vice President Riek Machar in Juba has failed after President Salva Kiir declined the request. Machar remains under house arrest amid an ongoing investigation into the killing of a top general, a move that has further inflamed tensions in the country. ‎Odinga, who was on a mediation mission to de-escalate rising political tensions in South Sudan, met with President Kiir on Friday.
