Top Opposition General Joins Government Forces in South Sudan

‎A senior opposition army officer has left his group and joined the government army in South Sudan. Brigadier General Adnan Alex Boboya, who was part of the SPLA-IO (the main opposition army), said he has decided to support peace and work with the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), which is the national army. ‎ ‎Speaking in Yei River County, Gen. Boboya said, “I am doing this for the good of my people and my country. It is time for peace. We, as soldiers, should protect our communities, not fight them.” ‎ ‎Government army leaders welcomed him and encouraged other opposition fighters to stop fighting and talk about peace. ‎ ‎This comes just days after over 600 SPLA-IO soldiers also joined the government side. ‎ ‎But some people are worried that these changes could cause more problems for the peace agreement signed in 2018 between President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar.  ‎ ‎There are also reports that Riek Machar is being kept at home and not allowed to move...

South Sudan National Members Of Parliament Threaten To Impeach Finance Minister If 6 Months Salaries Arrears Not Cleared

South Sudan National Members of parliament (MPs) issued a serious threat to impeach the Finance Minister over outstanding salary arrears.  
The threat came after MPs refused to listen to the budget of 2019/2020 fiscal year resulting into a total chaos in the parliament.
The MPs wanted to know why civil servants have not been paid their six months salary arrears.  
Just last Friday the Finance Minister promise to clear the outstanding arrears within two weeks 
One of the MPsvsaid that “Honorable minister of finance went to the media and informed the public that he was going to pay two months salaries within two weeks. Failure to do so, you will face the consequences.” 
Another female member of parliament also added that “If he cannot fulfill the promise by the second reading, we will impeach him.”

The National Security Service (NSS) announced the move, stating that reintegrating the defectors into the government army is essential for stability and peace. ‎ ‎David John Kumuri, NSS spokesman, emphasized the importance of this process, saying, ‎"This reintegration is key to reducing violence and ensuring security across the country." ‎ ‎This marks the third mass defection of SPLA-IO members in recent weeks, following clashes in Nasir, Upper Nile State, last month. ‎SPLM-IO Accuses Government of Violating Peace Agreement, Calls for AU Intervention ‎
