‎A senior opposition army officer has left his group and joined the government army in South Sudan. Brigadier General Adnan Alex Boboya, who was part of the SPLA-IO (the main opposition army), said he has decided to support peace and work with the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), which is the national army. ‎ ‎Speaking in Yei River County, Gen. Boboya said, “I am doing this for the good of my people and my country. It is time for peace. We, as soldiers, should protect our communities, not fight them.” ‎ ‎Government army leaders welcomed him and encouraged other opposition fighters to stop fighting and talk about peace. ‎ ‎This comes just days after over 600 SPLA-IO soldiers also joined the government side. ‎ ‎But some people are worried that these changes could cause more problems for the peace agreement signed in 2018 between President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar.  ‎ ‎There are also reports that Riek Machar is being kept at home and not allowed to move...

Meet Nareh Aka Napirah South Sudanese Finest Musician Making Headlines Abroad

Why did you start to sing?
I started singing because music had always  been part of my upbringing. My family, close and distant relatives had always practiced a type of music. The type of music that I grew up listening to had a different genre and melody to it. It's mostly composed out of traditional instruments and melodies. We call it Kojo in Diding'a language. In my earlier recordings, before moving to other genres such as Genge, Hip Hop, Reggae and and Dancehall, I incorporated much of these sounds, melodies and rhythms to mixes. These recordings and many more can be found on various social media sites like.

Words of encouragement  to South Sudan musicians.

My word of encouragement cannot only only be limited to the South Sudanese artists. No! I would also like to extend my word to the DJs, the promoters, the newspaper bloggers, the radio hosts and the listeners promoting the talent. Hey.......

Be United. Support each other. Emulate the type of love seen practiced by other artists in other countries by getting behind your own artists. Love South Sudanese artists' work. Play music South Sudanese, especially I'm South Sudanese parties. Encourage upcoming artists and know that, our music playing ground is so young in the world stage. It may seem to us that we cannot make it to international stardom. That's not true. We will get there just give time it's break. Keep recording. Don't be discouraged because it takes years for someone to be hard and be recognized because of the hard work that they put in. Get behind each other and help promote peace in South Sudan by singing songs that bring meaning, collective cooperation and community building.

That's all I got for now! Stay strong and keep grinding!
Peace, out! NAPIRAH NAREH
