SPLA-IO Accused of Detaining Civilian Boats, Demanding $4,000 Along Sobat River ‎

‎ Boat ferrying civilians  Nasir, Upper Nile State  ‎Authorities in Nasir County, Upper Nile State, have accused forces loyal to the Sudan People’s Liberation Army In Opposition (SPLA-IO) of detaining civilian riverboats and demanding ransom-like payments of up to $4,000 from traders and passengers along the Sobat River. ‎ ‎According to Nasir County Commissioner James Gatwech Joak, several boats traveling from Matar in Nasir County to Malakal were intercepted by SPLA-IO soldiers in Yakuach, an area in Nyirol County, Jonglei State. ‎ ‎“Our traders paid local taxes to SPLA-IO in Mandeng before setting off. But on reaching Yakuach, they were detained again and told to pay an additional four thousand U.S. dollars,” Commissioner Gatwech said. ‎ ‎He explained that the detained boat operators and traders were reportedly held for four days while armed men demanded more payments.  ‎ Some of the passengers were women, children, and patients traveling for medical treatment in Malaka...

Warrap State and Abyei Administrative Area Is Peaceful

 

Warrap State and Abyei Administrative Area has witness calm over the disputed boarder issue, the State Minister Of Information has said.

On Wedness December 21, the two communities had a clash that led to four dead and three being wounded on both sides. The clash forced the Authorities to to quell the inter communal conflict. 

William Wolf while speaking to  eyeradio said that

“upon hearing this incident, the government of Warrap State under the leadership of the governor, H.E Manhiem Bol Malek, sent in the security forces that were deployed as upper zone in the area to quell down the situation. So, the incident was separated,”-Wol.

Warrap State and Abyei Administrative Area had tension due to the outcome of communal violence. 

In April this year the two communities had conflicts an agreement to cease hostilities but it escalates. 

An investigative committee led by Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi brought the two communities of Ngok Dinka of Abyei – a disputed region between South Sudan and Sudan – and Twic in Warrap State to sign the broken ceasefire.

SPLM Secretary General Lam Both In Germany For Treatment

Last month, a peace dialogue between the Ngok people of the Abyei Administrative Area and the Twic of Warrap State –came up with a nine-point resolution in Western Bahr el Ghazal to end violence between the two communities.

The communique appealed to the conflicting communities to abstain from hostile propaganda and hate speech, and to adhere to the cessation of hostilities.

Both communities also resolve that chiefs, local authorities, youth, and women including politicians should hold an inclusive dialogue to declare an end to the violence.
