Top Opposition General Joins Government Forces in South Sudan

‎A senior opposition army officer has left his group and joined the government army in South Sudan. Brigadier General Adnan Alex Boboya, who was part of the SPLA-IO (the main opposition army), said he has decided to support peace and work with the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), which is the national army. ‎ ‎Speaking in Yei River County, Gen. Boboya said, “I am doing this for the good of my people and my country. It is time for peace. We, as soldiers, should protect our communities, not fight them.” ‎ ‎Government army leaders welcomed him and encouraged other opposition fighters to stop fighting and talk about peace. ‎ ‎This comes just days after over 600 SPLA-IO soldiers also joined the government side. ‎ ‎But some people are worried that these changes could cause more problems for the peace agreement signed in 2018 between President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar.  ‎ ‎There are also reports that Riek Machar is being kept at home and not allowed to move...

President Salva Kiir Again Asked Dr. Riek Machar To Return To Juba

South Sudan President Salva Kiir Repeated his earlier request for Dr.  Riek Machar to return to Juba and help in implementation of the peace agreement. 
Just last four weeks ago South Sudan President invited Riek Machar to come home to implement the transitional government which Dr. Riek Machar declined because of security reasons.  
Speaking this morning in during the transitional legislative assembly the President reiterated that “In the spirit of this peace agreement and our experience in Rome I once more extend my invitation to Dr. Riek Marcher to return home. I have completely forgiven him and all I ask from him is to become a peace partner for he is no longer my opponent, we have agreed and then we have to work together”
So we expect Riek Machar in Juba by November when he requested for the six months extension to form the interim government.

Tensions Rise as SPLA-IO Officers Defect to Government Forces

  IO defectors and NSS Spokesperson.  ‎South Sudan’s political and military landscape is experiencing renewed tensions after the defection of 463 SPLA-IO personnel to the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF). The National Security Service (NSS) announced the move, stating that reintegrating the defectors into the government army is essential for stability and peace. ‎ ‎David John Kumuri, NSS spokesman, emphasized the importance of this process, saying, ‎"This reintegration is key to reducing violence and ensuring security across the country." ‎ ‎This marks the third mass defection of SPLA-IO members in recent weeks, following clashes in Nasir, Upper Nile State, last month. ‎SPLM-IO Accuses Government of Violating Peace Agreement, Calls for AU Intervention ‎

‎The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO) has raised alarm over alleged violations of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS), accusing the ruling SPLM-In Government (SPLM-IG) of undermining the peace process. ‎ ‎In a statement addressed to the African Union Liaison Office in South Sudan, SPLM-IO condemned the arbitrary removal of its officials from government positions and the detention of key political figures, including First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar.  The opposition group also accused the government of orchestrating attacks against its members, particularly in Western Equatoria. ‎ ‎“The SPLM-IG has resorted to unilateral actions that violate the peace agreement, including the illegal replacement of SPLM-IO governors and ministers,” the statement read. “Our members are being targeted, arrested, and harassed.” ‎ ‎Foreign Troops and Security Crackdowns ‎ The SPLM-IO further alleged that foreign troops from Uganda...
