U.S. Blames Kiir for Slow Peace Implementation as UN Extends Sanctions on South Sudan

‎The United States has accused President Salva Kiir's government of failing to make sufficient progress in implementing South Sudan’s peace agreement, following the United Nations Security Council’s decision to extend sanctions and the arms embargo on the country for another year. ‎ ‎Addressing the UN Security Council, the United States said the continued sanctions were necessary due to ongoing delays in the implementation of the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement and the deteriorating political and security situation in the country. ‎ ‎Washington argued that South Sudanese leaders have not demonstrated enough commitment to advancing key reforms required under the peace deal, including security arrangements, political reforms, and preparations for national elections. ‎ ‎The renewed measures include the continuation of the arms embargo, travel restrictions, asset freezes, and the mandate of the UN Panel of Experts monitoring the sanctions regime until May 2027. ‎ ‎The U.S. delegation ...

South Sudan President Goes To South Africa To Extend The Confinement Of SPLM-IO Chairman Dr. Riek Machar




His Excellency President Salva Kiir is has stepped in South Africa on Friday, but his intentions are still not known but some major sites have speculated that it might be that he wanted to advocate for maintaining in confinement his main political rival and the leader of the Armed opposition Dr. Riek Machar and exclude him from future interim arrangements.

He was accompanied on the trip by the Minister of Defence, Kuol Manyang, the Minister in the Office of the President, Mayiik Ayii Deng, and Minister of Petroleum, Ezekiel Lul.

A major onsite news site said that “The president is visiting South Africa for two main reasons. One he is going to deliver a unified message of the transitional government of National Unity that Riek Machar should continue to remain outside the country during the interim period of the revitalized peace agreement," – Sudan Tribune.
