Police Officer Shot Dead, Gun Stolen While Guarding KCSE Exam Papers in Turkana ‎

Turkana County Police Commander, Samuel Ndanyi. ‎A police officer was shot dead in cold blood on Monday morning while guarding Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination papers in Turkana County.  ‎ The tragic incident occurred at Kang’atotha area, Turkana Central, where officers had been deployed to provide security during the ongoing national examinations. ‎ ‎According to police reports, the slain officer was part of a team assigned to escort and guard examination materials at a local school. Witnesses said the attack happened shortly after dawn when unknown assailants ambushed the officer. President Kiir today was briefed by Amb. Maj. Gen. Charles Tai Gituai who is also the head of the Reconstituted Joint and Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC) on the milestone achieved while implementing the peace agreement. 


Amb. Maj. Gen. Charles Tai Gituai, highlighted the tremendous advancements made in the constitution-making process and the ongoing reunification of armed forces as critical components of the peace agreement. 

Cabinet Affair Minister Martin Lomuro was in attendance and he also reiterated on the importance of International and Regional Support for the implementation of the peace process. 

Finally, President Kiir gave his reassurance about stability and resource availability that reflects the government’s determination to maintain momentum in the peace process. 

Summarily, the main objective of the meeting was to discuss major achievements in the current ongoing peace agreement and also the preparations for the upcoming December-2026 national elections. 

This update underscores the ongoing collaboration between South Sudan’s government and RJMEC in implementing the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS). 

The focus on the constitution-making process and the reunification of armed forces demonstrates progress in critical areas of the peace accord. 

These steps are vital for laying the foundation for credible and inclusive elections in December 2026.
