President Kiir VP. Bol Mel ‎President Salva Kiir has appointed Vice President Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel as the First Deputy Chairperson of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), in a significant reshuffle that signals potential shifts in the country’s political future. ‎ ‎Dr. Bol Mel replaces veteran politician Dr. James Wani Igga, who has served in the SPLM leadership since the liberation struggle.  ‎ ‎The move has sparked wide speculation that President Kiir may be grooming Bol Mel as his successor ahead of the long-awaited national elections. ‎ ‎In the same decree, Kiir also removed Daniel Awet Akot and Kuol Manyang Juuk from their positions as second and third deputy chairpersons. President Kiir today met and with Jonglei State Governor Hon. Denay Jock Chagor and the president was briefed on current issues in Jonglei State. 


President Kiir has expressed commitment to support the Government of Jonglei in addressing the challenges facing the State after Jonglei Governor Denay Jok Chagor briefed the President on the general situation in the region.


Denay says the security situation in the State is calm, despite the recent isolated incident, where a humanitarian truck was looted.


The Governor says the people of Jonglei are preparing for the upcoming general elections, praising the population for the prevailing open political space in the area.


Jonglei State is among one of the  states of South Sudan with Bor as its centre of government and the biggest city. Jonglei state comprises nine counties: Bor, Akobo, Ayod, Uror, Duk, Nyirol, Pigi, Twic East, and Fangak.


Since the  independence of South Sudan in the year (2011), communities across Jonglei State  have experienced a series of manmade, climactic shocks.  


Jonglei State also experienced economic shocks involving national and subnational violence, atypical flooding. 


Jonglei State also experienced what we call a rampant inflation that have eroded the viability of traditional food and livelihood activities, and left over three-hundred thousand people internally displaced and most of the population food insecure
