Police Officer Shot Dead, Gun Stolen While Guarding KCSE Exam Papers in Turkana ‎

Turkana County Police Commander, Samuel Ndanyi. ‎A police officer was shot dead in cold blood on Monday morning while guarding Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination papers in Turkana County.  ‎ The tragic incident occurred at Kang’atotha area, Turkana Central, where officers had been deployed to provide security during the ongoing national examinations. ‎ ‎According to police reports, the slain officer was part of a team assigned to escort and guard examination materials at a local school. Witnesses said the attack happened shortly after dawn when unknown assailants ambushed the officer. His firearm, a G3 rifle, was stolen after the shooting. ‎ ‎Turkana County Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi confirmed the incident, saying the assailants struck before other officers at the examination center could respond. “We lost one of our officers this morning while he was on official duty securing KCSE exam materials. President Kiir and 'SPLM' leaders held a closed door meeting to discuss the security situation in the country and also the situation in Sudan. 


In a closed door meeting chaired by President Kiir in Juba on Tuesday, the agenda of the meeting was to discuss the security situation in the two countries and the economic repercussions of the security situation in Sudan and South Sudan. 


President Kiir, and his deputies Dr. James Wani Igga, Daniel Awet Akot and Kuol Manyang Juuk also discussed the current security and political developments in the Sudan. 


While addressing the media, Vice President and SPLM deputy Chairman Dr. James Wani Igga says SPLM appeal to the Sudanese leaders to come to the negotiating table in order to bring the conflict to an end.


He said SPLM as a liberation party is committed to restoration of peace and stability in the region.


Sudan is almost collapsing as forces loyal to two rival generals are battling for control of the resource-rich North African nation.


According to United Nations figures, the ongoing conflict has left over hundred people dead and thousands injured and thousands more are displaced. 


Sudan currently is being controlled by Gen. Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman Burhan. Sudan's Sovereign Council, the military-civilian body that is the highest power in the transitional government. 


Gen. Abdel Fatah Abdelrahman is the current ruler of Sudan since the fall of Omar al-Bashir. Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok is the civilian leader of the cabinet.
