Presidents Kiir and Ruto Direct Mediation Teams to Resolve Outstanding Issues for Tumaini Initiative, Paving Way for Regional Stability

  President Kiir of South Sudan Hosting President Ruto of Kenya in J1.  President Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan and Kenya’s President Dr. William Ruto have instructed their respective mediation teams to resolve any remaining issues under the Tumaini Initiative within a two-week timeframe, ahead of a final signing. This directive follows a high-level meeting in Juba, during which both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to regional stability and strengthening bilateral ties. Kenya's National Security Advisor, Dr. Monica Juma, highlighted that the two leaders agreed to secure regional support for the Tumaini Initiative. They encouraged IGAD to mobilize resources and secure backing from the TROIKA countries to ensure the initiative's full implementation. THE GOVERNMENT OF JAPAN APPLAUDED PRESIDENT SALVA EFFORTS TOWARDS PEACE IN SUDAN

 



The government of  has conveyed support to the IGAD peace process in Sudan headed by President Salva Kiir Mayardit. This comes as Prime Minister Fumio Kishida Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Shumizu Shinsuke, met President Kiir in Juba on Friday. 


Speaking in a joint media briefing Ambassador Shinsuke says he consulted with President Kiir on the conflict in Sudan, where Japan called for strict observance of ceasefire and allowing humanitarian assistance to reach the civilians trapped by conflict.


The Envoy said the Japanese government has confidence on President Kiir’s mediation efforts in Sudan and pledged to coordinate humanitarian aid to the affected population.


South Sudan’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Deng Dau Deng said President Kiir has assured the Japanese Envoy of his commitment towards restoration of peace in the Sudan. Minister Deng said President Kiir has been on constant talks with the two warring Generals in Khartoum to cease fire and come to the negotiating table.


On Thursday, the two parties in their pre-negotiation signed a declaration of commitment to protect civilians and lay ground for humanitarian assistance to resume in Sudan.
