‎UN, RJMEC Raise Alarm Over Stalled Peace Deal in South Sudan

‎International bodies are sounding the alarm as South Sudan's fragile peace process teeters on the edge of collapse. The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC) have warned of deepening divisions, rising insecurity, and stalled implementation of the 2018 peace deal. ‎ ‎A Dangerous Breakdown in Peace ‎The 2018 Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) brought hope to a nation shattered by civil war. But that hope is now dimming. ‎In a briefing to the UN Security Council, Guang Cong, the Deputy Head of UNMISS, revealed that over 130,000 people have been displaced in recent months due to a surge in armed violence particularly in Upper Nile and Greater Pibor.  ‎The increase in military activity and the escalation of localized conflicts have disrupted humanitarian access and eroded confidence between the signatories of the peace agreement. ‎“These are not just isolated ...

Honorable Minister's Visit to China National Petroleum Corporation Headquarters, Beijing, People's Republic of China

Today, Honorable Ambassador Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, Minister of Petroleum of the Republic of South Sudan accompanied by high level delegation from the Minisry of Petroleum is on five days visit to People's Republic of China, Beijing to meet with the leadership of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and its subsidiaries.

Today, Honorable Ambassador Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, Minister of Petroleum met with Mr. Vice Chairman of CNPC, President of China Petroleum Technology and Development Corporation (CPTDC) and Vice President of China National Oil and Gas Exploration and Development Corporation (CNODC).

Honorable Minister Gatkuoth discussed wide ranges of issues ranging form resumption of Oil production at block 1/2/4, increase of Oil Production at block 3/7, management of produced water to protect the environment, Exploration of new blocks, community Developmental Projects, Scholarships and capacity building program to develop the capacity of the staff of the Ministry of Petroleum  and Nilepet.

On top of the agenda is management of the produced water and optimisation of the production at block 3/7.

Honorable Minister Gatkuoth during series of his meetings with CNPC, CPTDC and CNODC made it abundantly clear that Management of produced water to protect the environment is top priority for the Ministry of Petroleum to increase oil production.

Honorable Minister Gatkuoth urged CNPC the largest shareholder in block 3/7  and block 1/2/4 to explore new fields to add more crude oil to the producing fields.

Honorable Minister Gatkuoth assured the leadership of CNPC and all its subsidiaries that the Ministry of Petroleum and the entire government of the Republic of South Sudan will support the CNPC operations in South Sudan and provide full protection to the CNPC oil workers and all the partners operating in South Sudan. This close cooperation, partnership and collaboration between the two sisterly Countries will continue to flourish for the benefit of the People of South Sudan and the People of China.
