13 Killed in Jonglei Clashes Over Disputed Fishing Ground.

‎Jonglei State, South Sudan. At least 13 people have been killed and more than 20 others injured in renewed communal clashes between the Hol and Ayual communities in Jonglei State, officials confirmed on Thursday. ‎ ‎The deadly fighting broke out on Wednesday at Bioth-Agany Fishing Island, a disputed area between Duk and Twic East counties, after armed youth from the Hol community of Duk reportedly launched an attack on the island currently claimed by the Ayual community of Twic East. ‎ ‎Twic East County Commissioner Juach Arok Juach stated that seven people from his community were killed, seven others wounded, and four remain missing. He added that Hol youth are still occupying the area and tensions remain high. ‎ ‎On the other side, Duk County Commissioner John Chatim confirmed six deaths and 14 injuries among the Hol community.  ‎ ‎“We are urging our youth to cease fighting and allow the government to take over the matter and investigate. South Sudan First Ever Female Captain Pilots

Meet Captain Aluel James Bol and Amel Ajongo - they are the first female South Sudanese pilots.

Captain Aluel actually became the first female pilot for the whole of Sudan in 2011.

Ajongo became the second female pilot in South Sudan when she graduated in August 2018.

How many more will follow in their footsteps? And what will you tell your daughters, sisters and nieces when they speak of their seemingly impossible dreams?

We should encourage our girls to pursue their dreams rather than force them into marriage.

Mass Defection of Opposition Forces (SSOA) Threatens South Sudan's Fragile Peace Deal ‎

‎ A group SSOA defectors.  ‎More than 2,300 security personnel formerly aligned with the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) have defected to join the ranks of the government under President Salva Kiir, in a development that could significantly destabilize the 2018 peace agreement. ‎ ‎According to Samir, one of the commanders leading the defection, the group includes 105 army officers, 650 police officers, 668 prison service officers, 400 wildlife officers, and 506 fire brigade officers. ‎ ‎“We renounce all duties assigned to us under SSOA and are now under the command of the president,” Samir declared.  ‎ ‎He called on other opposition forces across the country to follow suit, in what appears to be a strategic consolidation of power under Kiir. ‎ ‎David John Kumuri, the public relations director for the National Security Service, welcomed the defectors and assured them of their safety.  ‎ ‎He said that, “this move demonstrates a commitment to peace and national unity...
