Nineteen '19' year old woman committed suicide in Lakes State, Rumbek East County

  The local police of Lakes State confirmed that a 19 year old woman committed suicide in the County of Rumbek East in the village of Meen-Wal and the police withheld the deceased name for unknown reason.  This is not the first time for the young girls to commit suicide in the State, the first case was reported to the authorities  two days ago after a young girl committed suicide in Wulu County.  While speaking to the Media, Police Spokesperson Maj. Elijah Mabor Makwach said that, the police are conducting thorough investigation on why there is a rampant rise of suicide amongst girls in Lakes State.  “We have recorded several cases of suicide with the most recent being a 19-year-old girl who committed a suicide in Meen-wal village in Rumbek East County and the investigation is still ongoing to identify the cause of the suicide because the cases are rising. Job Title:                      Case Management Officer. (3 Posts)
Location:                     Maban – (Batil 1, Gendrassa 1, Kaya 1)
Reports to:                   Senior Case Management Officer
Contract period:          5 Months – with possibility of extension.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Case Management Officer is a member of Save the Children’s (SC) Refugee and IDPs Crisis Response team in Maban, South Sudan and will work under the supervision of the Senior Case Management Officer. The post holder will ensure that case management activities at camp level are consistent with the Standard Operating Procedures, principles and approaches, and draw on relevant best practices and lessons learned; enable vulnerable children and youth to attain their rights and programmes are compliant with donor regulations.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Working with the case management senior officer, the case management officer will;
·         Keep up-to-date map of existing services in the camp to which children, youth and families can be referred to.
  • Link case management with service providers in accordance with the referral mechanisms and support effective follow up and collaboration
  • Train, supervise and coach case workers on the identification, assessment, documentation, referral (to relevant services) and follow-up of at-risk children, youth and families
  • Supervise and support the case workers in case monitoring and family visits
  • Conduct weekly case management conferences with all case workers at camp level
  • Ensure that case workers respect confidentiality and follow case management ethical guidelines
  • Ensure case files, registers and computer databases are used in an appropriate and correct manner and case workers adhere to proper documentation and data protection protocols
  • Link with Data Officers and utilize the Inter-Agency Child Protection Information Management System as a case management tool.
  • Review and follow up cases, and ensure all cases are managed within acceptable timelines
  • Work in close collaboration with the incentive case workers to strengthen our relationship with the community and to strengthen the referral system.
  • Work with the child youth protection team to ensure close links between case management and all our work in Child Youth Protection 
·         Ensure referral mechanisms are in place and cases are appropriately managed and followed up
  • Identify, assess and submit regular case management reports (including Best Interest Assessment (BIA) reports) and ensure case file information is kept up to date
·         Ensure constant and transparent communication and collaboration with relevant camp level stakeholders, including community members, community leaders and families
·         Prepare and document case management best practice, case studies and learning
·         Facilitate, collect and report information or challenges regarding the overall situation of child youth protection risks in Save the Children operational areas for redress
·         Support the preparation of all procurement and administrative documents required for case management implementation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
  • Bachelor degree/diploma in social work or other relevant field.

Essential
  • Extensive work experience of working directly with children and adolescents
  • Minimum of 1 year relevant work experience in child and/or youth protection case management, child youth protection programmes or related field
  • Experience in community mobilization and conducting outreach activities
  • Good understanding of community based approaches
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ethical sensitivity and ability to empathise with children, youth and their carers
  • Strong self-starter, able to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities
  • Able to work to tight deadlines under pressure
  • Fluent written and spoken English and Arabic
  • Commitment to upholding Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding Policy, as well as principles of do no harm and confidentiality.
Desirable
  • Experience in implementation of projects and supervision of staff
  • Experience in designing and facilitating community level training sessions
  • Knowledge and understanding of Child (and Youth) Protection in Emergencies and  Child (and Youth) Participation approaches and standards
