Russia to Open Embassy in Juba: A New Chapter in South Sudan–Russia Relations

‎ ‎In a significant diplomatic move, the Russian Federation is preparing to open its embassy in South Sudan between September and October 2025, marking a major milestone in the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two nations. ‎ ‎The news was confirmed by South Sudan’s Ambassador to Russia, Chol Tong Mayay, during a farewell event for a South Sudanese ICT delegation that recently attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2025). ‎ ‎A Long-Awaited Diplomatic Presence ‎The planned opening of a Russian embassy in Juba is seen as a long-overdue development in South Sudan-Russia relations.  ‎ ‎Since South Sudan gained independence in 2011, Russia has maintained diplomatic accreditation to Juba from its embassy in Khartoum.  ‎ ‎The establishment of a permanent diplomatic mission in the South Sudanese capital is expected to significantly boost cooperation, streamline consular services, and facilitate more direct political, economic, and cultural exchanges....

President ‎Kiir Charts 2025 Vision at SPLM Swearing-In: Bol Mel Steps In, SPLM Steps Forward



‎President Salva Kiir Mayardiit on Thursday officially welcomed the new top deputies of the SPLM during a swearing in ceremony at the party’s headquarters in Juba.

‎Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel stepped into the role of First Deputy Chairman, Mary Apai became the Second Deputy Chairperson, and Simon Kun was named Third Deputy Chairman.

‎In his speech, President Kiir said the SPLM is a movement for all South Sudanese not for one tribe or region. He urged the new leaders to work together, focus on results, and put the country first. 

‎Kiir also made a big announcement: 2025 is now the Year of Agriculture. He called on citizens to work the land and help build a self-reliant economy.

‎To the youth, he had this message: “The future is in your hands learn from the past and lead the way forward.”

‎Dr. Bol Mel, now officially the First Deputy, thanked Kiir for the trust. “I may be new to this role, but not to the struggle,” he said. 

‎Dr. Bol Mel, promised loyalty and teamwork to push the SPLM’s goals and honor the legacy of its past leaders.

‎The event brought together government officials, party members, and dignitaries from across the country all showing support for a fresh chapter in the SPLM’s journey.
