Nasir Trial Adjourned as MP Gatwech Lam Puoch Begins Defense ‎

‎The Special Court handling the Nasir incident has adjourned proceedings until Monday, June 15, after the third accused, MP Gatwech Lam Puoch, began presenting his defense. ‎ ‎Gatwech, a member of the National Legislative Assembly representing Nasir County, rejected allegations linking him to activities related to the Nasir incident.  ‎ He told the court that his actions were part of his constitutional duties as an elected representative and were aimed at reducing tensions in Nasir and Ulang counties. ‎ ‎The lawmaker said a press conference cited by prosecutors was intended to encourage dialogue, address rumors, and help prevent conflict rather than incite violence.  ‎ He maintained that he was fulfilling his responsibility to represent and speak on behalf of his constituents. ‎ ‎Gatwech also argued that the Nasir crisis should be viewed within the wider context of challenges facing the implementation of the 2018 peace agreement, citing concerns raised by various political act...

New Era for SPLM: Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel Pledges Loyalty, Discipline, and Development ‎

In a significant political development, Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel, Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chairperson of the Economic Cluster, has officially been sworn in as the First Deputy Chairperson of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM).

‎Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony in Juba, Dr. Bol Mel described his new role not as a personal honor, but a solemn "call to duty." He pledged to serve with loyalty, discipline, and dedication under the leadership of SPLM Chairperson and President, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit.

‎In his remarks, Dr. Bol Mel paid tribute to his predecessor, Professor James Wani Igga, and acknowledged the contributions of SPLM veterans including Comrades Daniel Awet Akot and Kuol Manyang Juuk.

‎He also expressed deep gratitude to the party’s founders, senior comrades, and veteran members for their courage and sacrifice, promising to carry their legacy forward. "You walked through fire to lift our nation from bondage to independence," he said. "I honour your service, respect your wisdom, and vow to carry forward the torch you lit."

‎Looking ahead to the 2026 general elections, Dr. Bol Mel outlined SPLM’s strategic roadmap, emphasizing grassroots mobilization, strengthening of party structures at all levels, and reactivating the SPLM Diaspora.

‎He also reaffirmed the SPLM’s commitment to President Kiir’s national vision particularly the promise that South Sudan “will never return to war.” His priorities include boosting agriculture, encouraging investment, and improving public sector welfare by ensuring regular salary payments for civil servants and organized forces.

‎Promising to be the President’s "engine for development," Dr. Bol Mel concluded with a unifying call:


‎“Now is the time to rise, to rebuild, and to reclaim the SPLM’s place as the beating heart of this nation.”

‎With a renewed leadership team and a clear roadmap, the SPLM is positioning itself as a driving force in shaping South Sudan’s future.
