Top Opposition General Joins Government Forces in South Sudan

‎A senior opposition army officer has left his group and joined the government army in South Sudan. Brigadier General Adnan Alex Boboya, who was part of the SPLA-IO (the main opposition army), said he has decided to support peace and work with the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), which is the national army. ‎ ‎Speaking in Yei River County, Gen. Boboya said, “I am doing this for the good of my people and my country. It is time for peace. We, as soldiers, should protect our communities, not fight them.” ‎ ‎Government army leaders welcomed him and encouraged other opposition fighters to stop fighting and talk about peace. ‎ ‎This comes just days after over 600 SPLA-IO soldiers also joined the government side. ‎ ‎But some people are worried that these changes could cause more problems for the peace agreement signed in 2018 between President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar.  ‎ ‎There are also reports that Riek Machar is being kept at home and not allowed to move...

President Kiir on Wednesday received letters of credential from 10 ambassadors designated to the Republic of South Sudan. 

  

The accredited ambassadors include one Resident ambassador and nine Non-resident ambassadors. 


The ambassadors accredited include; 

1. United Kingdom ambassador to South Sudan, Amb. Guy Warrington


2. Austria Non-resident ambassador to South Sudan, Amb. Simone Knapp, 


3. Poland Non-resident ambassador, Amb. Przemyslaw Bobak, 


4. Czech Republic Non-resident ambassador, Amb. Miraslav Kosek, 


5. Republic of South Korea Non-resident ambassador, Amb. Park Sung-Soo, 


6. Denmark Non-resident ambassador, Amb. Kira Smith Sindjberg, 


7. People's Republic of Philippines Non-resident ambassador, Amb. Marie Charlotte G. Tang


8. Kingdom of Morocco Non-resident ambassador, Amb. Abderrazak Laassel 


9. Republic of Burundi Non-resident ambassador, Amb. Willy Nyamitew


10. Democratic People's Republic of Korea Non-resident ambassador, Amb. Sim Tong Guk 


The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hon. Deng Dau Malek said the government will deepen bilateral relations between South Sudan and their respective countries and provide them with the necessary support to run their embassies in Juba.


The accredited Ambassadors expressed their commitment to work with South Sudan to promote mutual cooperation and to establish strategic relations, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, agricultural sector, and humanitarian assistance.
