SSPDF and Agwelek Forces Capture New Fangak in Jonglei State ‎

‎ SSPDF Soldier  ‎Government troops from the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), backed by the Agwelek militia, have taken control of New Fangak (Phom) in Fangak County, Jonglei State, following a coordinated military offensive against forces loyal to the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-in-Opposition (SPLA-IO) and the White Army. ‎ ‎Major General Paromi Angui, the SSPDF operations commander and deputy commander of Agwelek forces, confirmed the capture, stating that the operation began on May 12 and resulted in the seizure of both New Fangak town and the Alel area to its south. ‎ ‎According to Gen. Paromi, government forces suffered minimal losses, with one soldier killed and a few others wounded.  ‎ ‎He claimed that the opposition suffered heavier casualties and reported the capture of two SPLA-IO fighters. Saudi Arabia Foreign Minister HRH Faisal Bin Farhan Al-Saud today was well received by South Sudan President Salva Kiir.

The Visit by one of Saudi Arabia highest ranking official symbolize the commitment of Saudi Arabia towards building a stronger diplomatic ties with South Sudan. 

His Excellency President Salva Kiir said that “we are so privileged to host you here today as you are the first High Profile Government's official to visit South Sudan from Gulf States since our independence.”

“The visit of your Highness has come at a time when we are consolidating peace in our country and opening up avenues for investment opportunities so that our people can reap the benefits of their abundance natural resources", he added.

His Excellency Salva Kiir Further added said“ It is my utmost hope that we will both benefit out of such shared investment for betterment of our two countries. We lack skills and necessary technology and your investment will enable us to open up our potential as bread basket in the region.”

The Saudi Foreign Minister said that the people of Saudi Arabia are willing to explore investment and trade opportunity in South Sudan.
