‎UN, RJMEC Raise Alarm Over Stalled Peace Deal in South Sudan

‎International bodies are sounding the alarm as South Sudan's fragile peace process teeters on the edge of collapse. The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC) have warned of deepening divisions, rising insecurity, and stalled implementation of the 2018 peace deal. ‎ ‎A Dangerous Breakdown in Peace ‎The 2018 Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) brought hope to a nation shattered by civil war. But that hope is now dimming. ‎In a briefing to the UN Security Council, Guang Cong, the Deputy Head of UNMISS, revealed that over 130,000 people have been displaced in recent months due to a surge in armed violence particularly in Upper Nile and Greater Pibor.  ‎The increase in military activity and the escalation of localized conflicts have disrupted humanitarian access and eroded confidence between the signatories of the peace agreement. ‎“These are not just isolated ...

SPLM-IO and SSPDF team visits YEI River State


Joint forces including the SPLM-IO and SSPDF today decided to visit the people of YEI specifically the people of Morobo Payam in the YEI RIVER COUNTY in accordance with the on-going peace agreement in the country.
South Sudan Chief of General Staff Mr Jok says that the joint forces are in accordance with the signed peace agreement and he also urged the people to unite and work for peace. Finally, he orders all the SPLM-IO forces who are currently residing in public schools, health facilities to come out and join hands in order to move the country forward.
The years of the brutal civil war in Junub Sudan has resulted to over half a million loss of lives (500,000), according to the finding by London School Of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. According to the report, it was initially believed that over 50,000 people lost their lives but it is far worst that figure.
The occasion in YEI RIVER STATE was also attended by the SPLM-IO acting Governor of Yei River State Mr Milton who said that he is extremely happy for the unity of the two warring parties and the signed peace agreement which will bring peace to the people of YEI RIVER COUNTY.
Mr Yusto Baba the YEI RIVER STATE Deputy Governor also was beaming with happiness and smiles were written all over his face and hope of uniting the country together and also the hope of restoring stability in YEI RIVER STATE was all written on his face.
YEI RIVER STATE used to be called the Small London because of the pace in which it was developing. It was very smart and clean, food was easily available and in abundance but since the civil war, it has become more of a ghost town.
