‎A senior opposition army officer has left his group and joined the government army in South Sudan. Brigadier General Adnan Alex Boboya, who was part of the SPLA-IO (the main opposition army), said he has decided to support peace and work with the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), which is the national army. ‎ ‎Speaking in Yei River County, Gen. Boboya said, “I am doing this for the good of my people and my country. It is time for peace. We, as soldiers, should protect our communities, not fight them.” ‎ ‎Government army leaders welcomed him and encouraged other opposition fighters to stop fighting and talk about peace. ‎ ‎This comes just days after over 600 SPLA-IO soldiers also joined the government side. ‎ ‎But some people are worried that these changes could cause more problems for the peace agreement signed in 2018 between President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar.  ‎ ‎There are also reports that Riek Machar is being kept at home and not allowed to move...

Nineteen '19' year old woman committed suicide in Lakes State, Rumbek East County

The local police of Lakes State confirmed that a 19 year old woman committed suicide in the County of Rumbek East in the village of Meen-Wal and the police withheld the deceased name for unknown reason.

This is not the first time for the young girls to commit suicide in the State, the first case was reported to the authorities  two days ago after a young girl committed suicide in Wulu County.

While speaking to the Media, Police Spokesperson Maj. Elijah Mabor Makwach said that, the police are conducting thorough investigation on why there is a rampant rise of suicide amongst girls in Lakes State.

“We have recorded several cases of suicide with the most recent being a 19-year-old girl who committed a suicide in Meen-wal village in Rumbek East County and the investigation is still ongoing to identify the cause of the suicide because the cases are rising. Last week alone, two suicide cases were reported,” Maj. Mabor said.

Lakes State Police Spokesperson further said that, they have been confronting people to share their problems with friends and relatives.

“We have been urging our people to share their problems with friends and relatives so that they get help and not make rash decisions when they are under pressure. If you do not share your problems with other people who can help, you may get frustrated and decide to commit suicide.” Maj. Mabor added.

Meanwhile, Rumbek State, Medical Director Dr. Terran Madit Terran said that, the main reason suicide cases are being heard of is because suicide cases are being reported to the media unlike the past.

“Some years back you could not hear about somebody committing, whether a young girl or teenager. There are a lot of factors like maybe there was no good media coverage and people were not reporting suicide cases,” Dr. Terran said.
