Nasir Trial Adjourned as MP Gatwech Lam Puoch Begins Defense ‎

‎The Special Court handling the Nasir incident has adjourned proceedings until Monday, June 15, after the third accused, MP Gatwech Lam Puoch, began presenting his defense. ‎ ‎Gatwech, a member of the National Legislative Assembly representing Nasir County, rejected allegations linking him to activities related to the Nasir incident.  ‎ He told the court that his actions were part of his constitutional duties as an elected representative and were aimed at reducing tensions in Nasir and Ulang counties. ‎ ‎The lawmaker said a press conference cited by prosecutors was intended to encourage dialogue, address rumors, and help prevent conflict rather than incite violence.  ‎ He maintained that he was fulfilling his responsibility to represent and speak on behalf of his constituents. ‎ ‎Gatwech also argued that the Nasir crisis should be viewed within the wider context of challenges facing the implementation of the 2018 peace agreement, citing concerns raised by various political act...

Breaking: Kiir Receives Report Proposing Lower Tariffs, Wider Power Access



‎President Salva Kiir Mayardit has received a comprehensive report from the Power Purchase Review Agreement Committee, chaired by Engineer Madhieu Acuil Mawien, the Undersecretary in the Ministry of Energy and Dams.

‎The committee was assigned to review the power purchase agreement between the Government of South Sudan and Ezra Construction and Development Group. 

According to Engineer Madhieu, the President instructed the team to ensure the agreement is aligned with the country’s electricity policy and national interests.

‎Key areas under review include:

‎Equity structure and shareholding entitlements between the government and Ezra Construction.

‎Ownership stakes in Juba Electricity Distribution Company (JEDCO).

‎Tariff reductions to make electricity more affordable for citizens.

‎Restructuring power distribution through JEDCO to improve efficiency.

‎Engineer Madhieu stressed that the committee’s mandate involves consulting all parties to ensure a sustainable and affordable supply of electricity, while safeguarding national interests and expanding access across the Ten States and Three Administrative Areas.

‎The Ministry of Energy and Dams, which oversees power generation, transmission, and distribution nationwide, is expected to play a central role in implementing the recommendations.
